School Fence Safety

Now that the school year is in full swing for most children, it's important to address a topic that is not often talked about within the landscaping community: school fencing. One of the most important safety aspects of a school playground is safe and secure fences. It's impossible to keep an eye on every student during recess, and for whatever reason, kids love playing near fences. Here are some types of fences that feature inadequate designs that may result in injuries:

- Middle rails on outfield fencing. When kids hurl their bodies at outfield fencing to catch a baseball, they may not see the middle rail on the fence and get hurt.
- Rolling gates. These can create pinch points, so roller guards should be placed on all rollers.
- Spear top ornamental fence. If kids try to climb these fences, their clothes can get caught on the top and cause them to fall.
